Intermunicipal collaboration is key to developing the competencies required for the green transition. This is what GreenSkillsConnect stands for.

Following the successful launch event on 17 March 2026, the GreenSkillsConnect project is moving into its next phase. Stakeholders and multipliers from the Römerland Carnuntum region came together to discuss the crucial skills required for the ecological transition. It quickly became clear that there is a strong need for qualified professionals with solid sustainability knowledge and green skills.

The event focused on the findings of the analysis phase. A survey of organisations revealed some striking insights. The data showed that there is a lack of both sector-specific expertise and cross-cutting competencies to effectively integrate sustainability into day-to-day work. This is precisely where GreenSkillsConnect comes in. Using the Community-of-Practice (CoP) method, the project is developing a new platform to facilitate inter-municipal collaboration in the field of green skills.

External experts provided valuable professional input. Alexander Rauner, from the Austrian Economic Chamber (WKO), explained why green skills will be crucial for businesses to remain viable in the future. Sandra Karanitsch-Ackerl, from the Regional Development Association Römerland Carnuntum, emphasised the role of regional networks in overcoming challenges collectively and accelerating learning processes.

Overall, it became clear that, while many organisations are actively working on sustainable solutions, they still require additional expertise, particularly with regard to department-specific sustainability issues. The project team, consisting of Oliver SchrotMartin SchottMarion Zöchbauer and Johannes Naimer-Stach, is working closely with the following strategic partners: The NÖ Energie- und Umweltagentur GmbHVerein Energiepark Bruck/ LeithaKEM CarnuntumKEM Energie3, KLAR! Lanzendorf+KLAR! Am Leithaberge and  Regionalentwicklungsverein Römerland Carnuntum. The project will run until the end of August 2027.
